The Premier League is back! Match day one was packed with loads of excitement. If you missed any of it here is a brief recap. New boys, Hull City, shocked title holders Leicester, 2-1. Leroy Fer’s late goal gave Swansea a 1-0 win over Burnley. West Brom just edged Crystal Palace, 1-0. Tottenham and Everton drew, 1-1. Stoke tied 1-1 with Middlesbrough. Southampton and Watford also tied 1-1. Pep Quardiola won his first match in charge of Manchester City, 2-1 over Sunderland thanks to an own goal by Paddy McNair in the 87th minute. Manchester United and Jose Mourinho were victorious against Bournemouth, 3-1 with new signing Ibrahimovic netting his first goal in the EPL. Philippe Coutinho scored twice as Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-3 in a thrilling match. In the final game West Ham fell 2-1 to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea. So, the first weekend of EPL action has come to a close and what a weekend it was. Champions were slain, giants clashed, and Mourinho won his first game as his former rivals’ manager. Who can guess what match day two holds in store!
It’s been nearly three months since the last Premier League match but the wait is almost over. This weekend marks the start of the 2016/17 season. There’s much to be excited about with new managers Pep Guardiola (managing Man City), Jose Mourinho (managing Man Utd), and Antonio Conte (managing Chelsea) providing new competition for returning managers Arsene Wenger (managing Arsenal), Claudio Ranieri (managing Leicester), Jurgen Klopp (managing Liverpool), and Mauricio Pochettino (managing Tottenham). Many clubs have not only bolstered their staff, but also their squads. Manchester United and Arsenal have made a number of big signings with teams such as Tottenham and Manchester City making a couple new editions (I will talk more in depth about the transfers in my Transfer Talk post). As always the new boys Middlesborough, Hull City, and Burnley will be interesting to watch. Well, only time will tell, but this could shape up to be one memorable season.
Dear Touchline80 Supporters,
Due to my increasingly rigorous training schedule with my soccer club I will unfortunately be unable to post as frequently as I was previously. I will still continue to provide match day recaps and keep you up to date on the latest news when I can. Thank you!
