Here is a brief recap of the match day 6 UEFA Champions League matches that took place on Wednesday. As I said in UEFA Champions League, Match Day 6, Part 1, for some teams the matches are meaningless, but for others they’ll decide if they will advance, play in the UEFA Europa League, or be knocked out of Europe entirely. BATE Borisov held Roma to a 0-0 draw. Bayer Leverkusen fought hard, but were unable to defeat Barcelona, tying 1-1. They will now feature in the Europa League Round of 32 along with the other teams who finished third in their group. Under fire Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho couldn’t afford another loss and they faced a good Porto side. The Blues (Chelsea) were up to the challenge though, the final score was 2-0. Robert Lewandowski netted a brace to give Bayern Munich a 2-0 victory against Dinamo Zagreb. Maccabi Tel-Aviv lost 1-0 Dynamo Kiev. Gent beat Zenit 2-1. Arsenal needed a win versus Olympiakos to advance to the round of 16. They took care of business, crushing the Greek champions, 3-0 with Olivier Giroud scoring all 3. Lyon were 2-0 victors over Valencia. Well, that’s all for the UEFA Champions League group stages. Make sure you check back around March 16 for my post on the round of 16.
