English Premier League, Match Day 13

Here is a brief recap of the EPL matches that took place on match day 13. Manchester United went 1-0 up on Watford when Memphis Depay scored in the 11th minute and were able to hold that lead all the way up until the 87th minute when Marcos Rojo (Manchester United) conceded a penalty, which Troy Deeney (Watford) converted. The Reds didn’t quit though, and in the 90th minute Troy Deeney put one in the back of his own net to give them the three points. Chelsea snapped their three game losing streak in the EPL with their 1-0  win over Norwich. Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley both netted a brace as Everton crushed Aston Villa, 4-0. Leicester City were 3-0 victors over Newcastle with Jamie Vardy tying Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for most consecutive games scored in (10). The Foxes are now top of the table (1st place). Southampton lost 1-0 to Stoke. Swansea came back from 2-0 down to tie Bournemouth, 2-2. West Brom upset Arsenal, beating them 2-1. Liverpool destroyed Manchester City, 4-1. I know I did not expect that outcome. Tottenham cruised to 4-1 win versus West Ham. Sunderland defeated Crystal Palace thanks to Jermain Defoe’s solo goal in the 80th minute. Well, that’s all for match day 13’s Premier League action.

English Premier League, Match Day 12

Here is a brief recap of the English Premier League matches that took place on match day 12. Ayoze Pérez’s 27th minute goal gave Newcastle a very important 1-0 win over Bournemouth. Third place Leicester continued their good form, beating Watford 2-1 with Jamie Vardy netting his 12th goal of the season. Manchester United were 2-0 victors over West Brom. Swansea were defeated 1-0 by Norwich. Southampton won 1-0 against Sunderland thanks to Dusan Tadic’s 69th minute penalty conversion. West Ham and Everton drew, 1-1. Chelsea are now only 3 points above the relegation zone after their 1-0 loss to Stoke City. Aston Villa held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw in Remi Garde’s (Aston Villa) first game as manager. Scott Dann’s 82nd minute goal gave Crystal Palace a 1-0 victory over Liverpool. The biggest game this weekend was the North London Derby, Arsenal vs Tottenham. Tottenham were, in my opinion, the better team for the majority of the match. Harry Kane scored in the 32nd minute to give the Spurs the lead. After that Tottenham had many opportunities to increase their lead, but couldn’t finish. Then in the 77th minute Kieran Gibbs, who came on as a sub, netted to salvage a point for Arsenal. A tie wasn’t a terrible result for either team. Well, that’s all for match day 12’s EPL action.

Here is a brief recap of the match day 4 UEFA Champions League matches that took place on Tuesday. FC Astana surprisingly held Atletico Madrid to a 0-0 draw. Benfica beat Galatasaray, 2-1. Borussia Mönchengladbach and Juventus tied, 1-1. Wayne Rooney’s 79th minute goal gave Manchester United a much needed win over CSKA Moscow; the final score was 1-0. Wolfsburg lost 2-0 to PSV. Real Madrid were a bit fortunate to have won 1-0 against PSG. Nacho’s goal in the 35th minute was probably a cross and from a ridiculous angle (the goalie was out of position though) and Di Maria (PSG) hit the woodwork twice. Manchester City were 3-1 victors versus Sevilla. Shakhtar Donetsk crushed Malmo, 4-0. That’s all for Tuesday’s match day 4 UEFA Champions League action.
