English Premier League, Match Day 34

The English Premier League is nearing the final match day. The games are becoming more and more important, if your a team battling for a UEFA Champions League spot or a team battling to stay in the EPL. If you missed the action, here’s a brief recap. Tottenham battled to a 2-2 draw with Southampton, which just about ended both of their UCL (UEFA Champions League) hopes. Leicester beat Burnley, 1-0, in a huge game that could be what keeps them from being knocked out of the Premier League. Dame N’Doye netted a brace to help Hull City get an important 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Swansea City came back from 1-0 down in the 20th minute to beat Newcastle United, 3-2. West Ham United and QPR tied, 0-0. Although Stoke City had more shots and more possession, they were only able to draw Sunderland, 1-1. West Brom were able to hold Liverpool to 0-0. When Aston Villa scored in the 85th minute everyone must have thought they were going to take home a point, but in the 89th minute Fernandinho netted to give Manchester City all three points against the Villains. Everton shocked Manchester United, crushing them 3-0. Chelsea drew with Arsenal, 0-0, pretty much securing the title. That’s all for match day 34’s EPL action.

UEFA Champions League, Quarter-Finals, Second Legs

Here is a brief recap of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second legs. Neymar scored both of Barcelona’s goals in their 2-0 win over PSG (aggregate 5-1 Barcelona). After losing the first leg 3-1, Bayern crushed Porto 6-1 at home in the second (aggregate 7-4 Bayern Munich). Juventus drew 0-0 with Monaco, advancing to the next round on aggregate (aggregate 1-0 Juventus). Real Madrid dominated their match against Atletico Madrid, but the game was still tied at 0-0 in the 87th minute. Then in the 88th minute Javier Hernandez netted his first Champions League goal for Real Madrid to put them through to the semi-finals (aggregate 1-0 Real Madrid). English Premier League, Match Day 33

Here is a brief recap of match day 33’s EPL action. Although West Brom only had 32% possession, they beat Crystal Palace 2-0. Kevin Mirallas netted the only goal in Everton’s 1-0 victory over Burnley. Leicester City beat Swansea City to climb within one point of getting out of the relegation zone. Stoke City came back from 1-0 down to beat Southampton, 2-1. Manchester United dominated their match against Chelsea, but were unable to score, while the Blues netted in the 38th minute. Jose Mourinho’s men (Chelsea) have now gone twelve games unbeaten in the Premier League. West Ham United fell to Manchester City, who have been out of form lately, 2-0. Tottenham beat Newcastle United, 3-1. That’s all for match day 33’s Premier League action.

UEFA Champions League, Quarter-Finals, First Legs

Here is a brief recap of the first legs of the quarter-finals in the UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid drew Atletico Madrid away from home, 0-0. Juventus beat AS Monaco, 1-0, with their only goal coming from a penalty in the 57th minute. Barcelona dominated their match against PSG and deservedly won, 3-1. FC Porto shocked Bayern Munich, beating them 3-1. That’s all for the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first legs.

Barcelona Trumps Real Madrid in El Clasico

On March 22nd Real Madrid and Barcelona played. It is called an El Classico when they meet. Real Madrid dominated the first half and in the 12th minute Cristiano Ronaldo hit the post, but in the 19th minute Neymar Jr. sent in a free kick right to Jeremy Mathieu’s head and into the back of the net. 1-0 Barca. Barcelona weren’t in the lead for long. In the 31st minute, Karim Benzema passed it to Cristiano Ronaldo who burried the ball in the back of the net. 1-1. Real Madrid wanted another goal and in the 40th minute Benzema played a through ball in the air to Ronaldo who flicked it on (headed it) to Bale and Bale scored. But unfortunately Ronaldo was offsides and the goal was disallowed. Then in the 56th minute Danny Alves (Barcelona) played a through ball to Luis Suarez and he finished it. 2-1 Barca. In the 61st minute there was a stoppage in play because Sergio Ramos was injured, but was fine and kept playing. The final score was 2-1 and Barcelona won.

English Premier League, Match Day 32

Here is a brief recap of match day 32’s Premier League action. Swansea City drew 1-1 with Everton. Graziano PellĂ© ended his fourteen game scoring drouth in the EPL with his goal in Southampton’s 2-0 win over Hull. Yannick Bolasie scored a hat trick for Crystal Palace who crushed Sunderland, 4-1. Aston Villa shocked Tottenham, beating them 1-0 at White Hart Lane (Tottenham’s home stadium). Leicester City came from 2-1 down to West Brom in the 80th minute to win the match, 3-2. Stoke City were trailing West Ham United by one goal almost the whole match, but in the last minute of stoppage time they equalized to salvage a point. Arsenal dominated possession against Burnley, but only won 1-0. Chelsea left it late to beat QPR with Cesc Fabregas scoring the only goal of the match in the 88th minute. Liverpool easily won their match against Newcastle United, 2-0. Manchester United came from behind to crush Manchester City in the Manchester Derby. Ashley Young had an outstanding performance as well as many other players on the Reds (Man U). Manchester City are now in fourth, only four points in front of Liverpool who are in fifth. Manchester United are now third, only one point behind second place Arsenal. Well, that’s all for match day 32’s Premier League action.
