UEFA Champions League, Week 5, Part 2

Here is a brief recap of Wednesday’s week 5 Champions League action. Liverpool played horribly against Ludogorets and were only able to get a point (Ludogorets scored in the 88th minute to tie the game at two). Zenit were 1-0 victors over Benfica. Anderlecht didn’t have too much trouble with Galatasaray and won, 2-0. After coming off a disappointing loss to Manchester United in the EPL, Arsenal were looking for a win in their match against Borussia Dortmund. The Gunners (Arsenal) played quite well and beat Dortmund, 2-0, qualifying them for the next round. Mario Mandzukic netted a hat trick (three goals) in Atletico Madrid’s 4-0 thrashing of Olympiakos. Although Bayer Leverkusen dominated possession against AS Monaco, but lost, 1-0. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 72nd Champions League goal as Real Madrid beat Basel, 1-0. Juventus dominated Malmo FF and deservedly won, 2-0. That wraps up week 5 in the Champions League and make sure to watch for my English Premier League post on Tuesday.

P. S. Sorry this post is a little late and happy belated Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for all of my followers and supporters.

UEFA Champions League, Week 5, Part 1

It’s coming to the end of the group stage in the UEFA Champions League and the games are becoming more and more exciting. If you missed Tuesday’s action here’s a brief recap. With only a minute left to go it looked like AS Roma were going to win, but Vasily Berezutskiy netted to tie the game at one and save CSKA Moscow a point! FC Porto cruised to an easy 3-0 win over BATE Borisov. Luis Suarez scored his first goal for Barca and Lionel Messi added another three goals to his tally as the Catalans (Barca) crushed Apoel, 4-0! Sergio Aguero led Manchester City to a 3-2 win against German giants, Bayern Munich, scoring all three goals. PSG comfortably beat Ajax, 3-1. Schalke 04 were thrashed by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, 5-0. Athletic Bilbao barely won against Shakhtar Donetsk, 1-0. Sporting Lisbon won 3-1 in a vital match against NK Maribor. That’s all of the matches for Tuesday and there will be more tomorrow!

English Premier League, Match Day 12

Here is a brief recap of the Premier League action over the past few days. Chelsea dominated a ten man West Brom and deservedly won, 2-0. They are now six points clear of second place. Everton beat West Ham, 2-1 and collected a vital three points. Leicester City drew 0-0 with Sunderland. Man City came from behind to triumph over Swansea City, 2-1. Arsenal played a Manchester United side that was crippled by injuries, but were unable to pull of the win and lost, 2-1. Moussa Sissoko scored the only goal in Newcastle’s 1-0 victory against struggling QPR. Burnley beat Stoke City 2-1 for their second consecutive win. Liverpool’s poor form continued as they were crushed, 3-1, by Crystal Palace. Christian Eriksen saved Tottenham once again, scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute (they were down 1-0 until the 61st minute). Nathaniel Clyne salvaged a point for Southampton, tying the game in the 81st minute with a brilliant one time strike. That’s all for match day 12 and make sure you look for my post on the Champions League!

English Premier League, Match Day 11

Here is a brief recap of match day 11. Liverpool went 1-0 up on Chelsea in the 9th minute, but their lead didn’t last long. Gary Cahill scored five minutes later to tie the game and then in the 67th minute Diego Costa netted his tenth goal of the season to win the game for the Blues (Chelsea). Burnley won their first game of the season, 1-0 against Hull City (it only took eleven games). Juan Mata helped Manchester United to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, scoring the only goal of the match. Shane Long netted a brace (he was a substitute who didn’t come on until the 68th minute) for Southampton to hand them the three points over Leicester. West Ham United and Aston Villa drew, 0-0. Sergio Aguero scored two more goals in Manchester City’s match against QPR. Suprisingly though, they only tied 2-2 (QPR really should’ve won because one Man City’s goals was offsides). Sunderland and Everton shared the points in their 1-1 draw. Tottenham played very poorly and it showed. They lost 2-1 to Stoke City (Stoke City’s first goal was offside though, the ref just didn’t catch it). Ayoze Pérez scored his third goal in three matches in Newcastle United’s 2-0 win against West Brom. Arsenal were shocked when they let up yet another lead and lost 2-1 to Swansea City. That’s all for this week’s Premier League action. Remember that I won’t be posting again until the weekend after the next due to an international break.

UEFA Champions League, Week 4, Part 2

Here is a brief recap of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League action. Bayern Munich dominated their match against AS Roma and deservedly won, 2-0. Lionel Messi scored both of Barcelona’s goals in their 2-0 win over Ajax, tying Raul’s record for the all-time most Champions League goals scored (71 goals). FC Porto easily beat Athletic Bilbao, 2-0. CSKA Moscow shocked Manchester City away from home, winning 2-1. Wow! NK Maribor barely tied Chelsea, 1-1. In the 85th minute Eden Hazard had a chance to win the game when he was awarded a penalty, but he shot it right at the goalkeeper! Edison Cavani netted in the 1st minute to give PSG a 1-0 win against Apoel. Luiz Adriano scored a hat-trick in Shakhtar Donetsk’s 5-0 thrashing of BATE Borisov (surprisingly all of the goals came in the second half). Sporting Lisbon were able to beat Schalke 04, 4-2, and they still have a chance of moving on to the next round. That’s all for week 4. I hope you enjoyed it! 🙂

UEFA Champions League, Week 4, Part 1

Here is a brief recap of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League action. Son Heung-Min netted a brace to lead Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-1 win. Arsenal were 3-0 up on Anderlecht by the 58th minute and it looked like they would win comfortably, but somehow Anderlecht came back to tie, 3-3 (the goals for Anderlecht came in the  61st, 73rd, and 90th minutes). AS Monaco lost 1-0 to Benfica. Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 4-1 win over Galatasaray and have now qualified for the knockout round of the tournament. FC Basel crushed underdogs Ludogorets, 4-0. Olympiakos were leading Juventus 2-1, but then their goalkeeper scored an own goal (nothing he could do about it) and a minute later Paul Pogba put Juventus 3-2 in front with a great volley! Juventus went on to win 3-2. Atletico Madrid easily beat Malmo FF, 2-0. Real Madrid dominated Liverpool and won, 1-0, and they will be joining Dortmund in the next round. That’s all for Tuesday’s action, but their will be more tomorrow!

English Premier League, Match Day 10

Here is a brief recap of this weekend’s EPL action. Newcastle United stunned Liverpool, scoring the only goal of the game in the 73rd minute (the goal scorer was Ayoze Pérez)! Burnley held Arsenal to 0-0 all the way up to the 70th minute when Alexis Sanchez netted to put the gunners in the lead. Arsenal then scored two more times to win, 3-0. QPR looked as if they might be able to tie Chelsea, 1-1, but then they gave up a penalty in the 75th minute, which Eden Hazard finished to win the game for the Blues. Everton tied 0-0 with Swansea City. Victor Wanyama scored in the 3rd minute to hand Southampton the win over Hull. Esteban Cambiasso scored his second goal of the season against his own team (Leicester) and West Brom went on to win 1-0. That’s definitely one he’ll wanna forget. Sunderland beat Crystal Palace, 3-1, to pull clear of the relegation zone. West Ham United came from 2-0 down to Stoke to tie, 2-2. Aston Villa were 1-0 up on Tottenham and playing quite well, but when Christian Benteke was sent off in the 65th minute everything went downhill. The Hotspurs tied the game at one in the 84th minute and then the substitute, Harry Kane, scored a beautiful free kick in the 90th minute to win the game. Now for the Manchester Derby, contested between Manchester City and Manchester United. The game was pretty even until Chris Smalling was sent off (both of the yellow cards he picked up were needless). Then the Reds’ other center back, Marcos Rojo had to make way for Patty McNair due to an injury. Seven minutes after that Sergio Agüero scored, which proved to be the only goal of the game. Man City won, 1-0.
