Manchester United Slaughtered by MK Dons

The Red Devils have definitely not gotten off to a good start in the Premier League and their misfortune continued into the Capitol One Cup. They were expected to crush the MK Dons who are in the First Division. Apparently, the MK Dons didn’t know that and ended up crushing the Reds, 4-0. Their coach was shocked by the onslaught of goals. Two players had braces (two goals), Benik Afobe and William Grigg (the goals came in the 25th, 63rd, 70th, and 84th minutes)! Manchester United are going to need to improve if they want a shot at the title, or even a Champions League spot. As for the MK Dons, they just need to keep doing what their doing and they’ll be fine.

English Premier League, Match Day 2

Another amazing weekend of Premier League football (soccer) has gone by. If you missed it here is the recap of all the games. Newcastle dominated against Aston Villa, but wasn’t able to put a ball in the back of the net so the game ended 0-0. Leicester City held their own against title contenders Chelsea. The problem was they couldn’t finish any of their chances (kind of like Newcastle). After awhile Chelsea wore them down and the first goal came in the 62nd minute followed by another in the 77th minute making it 2-0. West Ham crushed Crystal Palace scoring two goals in the first half. Crystal Palace scored in the 48th minute, but it didn’t matter and West Ham scored again to seal the win. Southampton played hard against West Brom and was able to salvage a point. Nathan Dyer was the hero in Swansea match scoring the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute. Everton dominated in the first half of their game, going 2-0 up, but in the second half they fell apart. Arsenal scored a goal in the 83rd minute and the 90th minute to earn a point. Hull City may have been a bit unlucky to not get a win against Stoke City. Even though they went down a man due to a red card they did not despair and went ahead in the 42nd minute. Then in the 83rd minute Stoke won a throw in that clearly went out on them which started the play that tied the match (Unlucky!). Tottenham dominated against QPR and won 4-0 with Nacer Chadli scoring two goals. After Manchester United’s devastating loss against Swansea they were hoping to renew themselves in their match against Sunderland. They were a mess and was only able to get a tie. Manchester City played Liverpool in a huge match. It was a disaster for Liverpool and they lost 3-1 with their only goal coming off an own goal! Well, that is all for this week’s Premier League action and who knows what the future will hold!

The English Premier League has finally begun. Louis Van Gaal played his first match in the EPL at Old Trafford today against Swansea. As soon as Swansea went ahead in the 27th minute you could tell it was not the Red Devils’ day. Wayne Rooney scored a wonderful bicycle kick to tie the game in the 53rd minute, but Gylfi Sigurdsson put Swansea ahead again in the 72nd minute and this time they were not able to equalize. Newly promoted team Leicester City were looking to surprise a strong Everton side. They were down 2-1 at half time and four minutes before full time Chris Wood scored to tie the game, salvaging a point for Leicester. Another newly promoted team was QPR (Queens Park Rangers) who were also trying to get a win, but were not so lucky and lost 1-0 to Hull City. Aston Villa are off to a good start with a 1-0 win over Stoke City (the goal came in the 50th minute and was scored by Andreas Weimann). Sunderland started the game with a goal in the 5th minute, but were down 2-1 in the 74th minute. Five minutes before the final whistle, Sebastian Larsson tied the game at two. Mauricio Pochettino first game in charge of Tottenham was a very close one with Eric Dier scoring in the 90th minute to give Tottenham the three points. Crystal Palace suprisingly gained the advantage over Arsenal in the 35th minute, but the lead didn’t last long with Arsenal tying the game ten minutes later. Then in the 90th minute Aaron Ramsey scored to seal a victory for the Gunners (Arsenal). Liverpool were able to win their first Premier League game without Luis Suarez 2-1 against Shouthampton with goals coming from Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling. Manchester City won their first game of their title defending season with David Silva netting in the 38th minute and Sergio Aguero sealing the victory in the 90th minute. Burnley who wereing playing their first match in the Premier League since 2010 against Chelsea. The game was off to a good start when Scott Arfield put Burnley ahead 1-0 in the 14th minute, but things went downhill from their with Chelsea winning the game 3-1 (Diego Costa scored his first goal in the Premier League). The EPL is off to a great start and who knows what will happen next!

Premier League Predictions

7th- Tottenham Hotspurs

The Tottenham Hotspurs have hired a new coach, Mauricio Pochettino and have made a few new additions to their team. One being Seattle Sounders player Deandre Yedlin. They will have some pretty tough competition though.

6th- Everton

Everton are a small team, but have an amazing coach that could surprise many people. Especially since they have signed Chelsea striker Romeulo Lukako and Man City Midfielder Gareth Barry.

5th- Liverpool

Liverpool have made many new signings, (see Transfer Talk) but have lost one key figure, Luis Suarez. They still have Daniel Sturridge, but it will be though to beat the competition. Brendan Rodgers is a great coach though and should be up to the challenge.

4th- Manchester United

After a horrible season with David Moyes Manchester United have hired a new coach, Louis Van Gaal. They have also made many changes in the squad (see Transfer Talk) that will help them do much better then the previous season.

3rd- Manchester City

After a great season full of goals it might be hard for Man City to focus, but they have Manuel Pelligrini as their coach and many amazing players so they should be able to pull off at least a Champions League spot.

2nd- Arsenal

Arsenal have made many new signings. One was Barcelona Midfielder Alexis Sanchez. They also have a great coach, Arsene Wenger and he may be able to lead them very close to the Premier League title.

1st- Chelsea

The special one came so close to a title last year, he was just lacking a striker. Now that they have signed Diego Costa they will have the attacking power they needed. With Jose Mourinho’s amazing defensive strategies plus great attacking, Chelsea will definitely be a title contender.

The Super Cup

The Super Cup is a match contested between the Champions League winner and the Europa League winner (the Europa League is like the tournament you play in if you just miss out on a Champions League spot). This year it was Real Madrid v. Sevilla. 30 minutes in to the match Cristiano Ronaldo scored to put Real ahead. Then in the 49th minute Ronaldo scored his second goal to make it 2-0 and put the game beyond Sevilla’s reach. Real Madrid celebrated their first Super Cup in 12 years.

How Transfers Work

Transfers are really fun to follow, but you can’t follow them if you don’t know what a transfer is. So, let me break it down for you. When a player moves from one team to another it is called a transfer. Usually when a transfer occurs one team has to pay a transfer fee (sometimes a transfer fee is 10 pounds of sausage, but not very often) to the team who is selling the player, but they also have to pay the player his salary. Transfers can also be player swaps though. One team can swap one player for another. Teams are only allowed to make transfers in transfer windows which are the month of January and the month of June and August. Sometimes a player’s contract runs out which means teams can get him for free. I hope you now understand transfers a little better so you can follow transfers without being befuddled!
