Although the first two games were a bit of a disappointment this one certainly lived up to expectations. Both squads came out strong. Spain player Diego Costa won a questionable penalty in the 27th minute when he seemed to go to ground a little to easily. Xabi Alonso then buried it to open the scoring. Then right before halftime Robin van Persie scored off an amazing long ball from Daley Blind which he headed right over Casillas. From then on Spain just fell apart. In the 53rd minute Arjen Robben made it 2-1. Twelve minutes later Stefan de Vrij was able to connect with a ball from a free kick on the far post and score, 3-1. Robin van Persie was awarded a brace (two goals) when he scored again in the 72nd minute off a bad touch by Casillas, 4-1. Finally to top everything off Robben also scored to get his brace in the 80th minute. So the Oranje (Netherlands) took down champions and will feel pretty confident going into their next match. Meanwhile Spain will try to improve in their next game. Is this the Dutch’s year? Who knows what will happen in this year’s World Cup!
